Description

Earthenware Satsuma vase,  Meiji period (1886-1912). A truly beautiful cream color, with very fine crackle. This piece is unsigned, so it is likely from the earlier part of the Meiji period. Unlike Satsuma made for export, this vase has no gold gilding or over the top decorations. Its simple, hand painted decoration of rocks, birds and flowers hearkens to the traditional, early Satsuma pieces.
