Description:
|
Elegant two-piece planter primarily meant for African Violets, but can also be used as a bulb forcer. Fine studio piece - it was made with such care that the kiln trivet was positioned to align with the feet, and not puncture the glaze on the bottom. The lower bowl is a reservoir with two water holes, and the upper insert dish takes the violets or small bulbs & gravel. The lower bowl can also stand alone as a jardinière. The dense mottled matte glaze has a tortoiseshell appearance, and the base clay is fine, dense and light buff colored. The lower bowl measures 6½ inches across the handles, has a 4-inch opening, and stands 3 inches high. The upper insert measures 5 5/8 inches wide and is 2 5/8 inches high. The bottom of the insert is unglazed in order to wick up moisture to the roots. There is a small bit of water mineral residue on the unglazed bottom of the insert. The bottom hallmark is incised connected letters J and H. (# RPMP1004)
